Humanities & Social Sciences: Print Books

Books are arranged on the bookself by subject. Each book has spine label help you find what you are looking for.  The “call numbers” that you see on the spine label of the book is a combination of numbers and letters or just numbers that identify the location of the item on the shelf.

Ozu Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System to organize its collection.

1. Write your keyword Library Catalog search box.
2. Start a search with the Search button.
3. Note that your results will include both print and ebooks.
4. You can limit your results as by selecting “Books” from FORMAT to the left of your search results list.
5. You can narrow your search in different ways from the other options on the left if you want.
6. If the book you want to borrow is "Available", it means that you can find the book on its shelf with the specified call number.

Each book in the library has a unique call number. The call number tells you the book's location on the shelf.

• Borrowing books: Books can be borrowed from Information Desk or using the self-check machine on level B2. 
• Renewing books: Books which you have on loan can be renewed via My Library Account or you can come by Information Desk for renewing.
• Returning books: Books can be returned from Information Desk and Return Box.

What to do if the book is not available?

If a book you need is currently checked out, you can place a hold to be notified when the book is returned.

For a book that is listed in the library catalog as checked out or otherwise unavailable, click the "Hold" button in the catalog record and sign in with your Ozu username and password on the page.

When the book is returned and checked in, you will receive an email that the book is ready. It will be held for you at the Information Desk for up to 3 days.

Ozu Library provide your book request that are not in the library. There are 2 options for requesting.

ILL (Interlibrary Loan) Request: It is a free service that is offered by OZU Library that provides books that are not available at our library and may be requested to be loaned from other libraries. Current students, staff, and faculty are allowed to request ILLs.  Books requested through ILL usually arrive within 3-5 business days.

• ILL Request Form: Fill out with the needed information to complete the request.

Library Resources Request: Ozu Library welcome suggestions and requests for new resources. Books requested usually arrive within 6-8 weeks.

Use the following call numbers to browse books on our shelves related to Humanities and Social Sciences.  Most of Humanities and Social Sciences books are under shelfmark H (Social sciences)  and  B1-5802 (Philosophy)  you will also find books of interest under   D (History), P (Language and Literature) , HM (Sociology) and GN (Anthropology)

It is a collection donated to Özyeğin University by his family in memory of the writer Hulki Aktunç, mainly covering subjects such as literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, sociology, and art. There are more than 3000 titles in the collection, which also includes Hulki Aktunç's own works. Books in this collection have orange labels on the spines.
