About WRDS

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is an online data platform that specializes in company financials (financial statements, audit and regulatory filings, banks, segments / industry data, compensation, intellectual property), financial markets, prices, and returns (stock prices, analyst estimates, bonds and fixed income, mutual fund / hedge fund, ETF returns, derivatives / options, REITs, currency exchange rates), ownership, mergers and acquisitions, sustainability/ESG, economics, marketing, news, and healthcare.

WRDS' strengths include:

WRDS is primarily intended for use by OzU professors and PhDs conducting academic research or teaching courses with assignments that require the analysis of WRDS data.

OzU Library has access to some, but not all, WRDS datasets. We subscribe to some datasets and others are available as part of WRDS.

How to Access

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is only accessible to OzU faculty, staff, and students.

All WRDS account requests must go through the below steps. 

  1. Register for an account here: https://wrds-www.wharton.upenn.edu/register/ 
  2. Select "Ozyegin University" when signing up.
  3. Be sure to use your @ozyegin.edu.tr or @ozu.edu.tr email address when requesting account.
  4. Your request will then be evaluated and approved or rejected by OzU Library's WRDS administrator, typically within one or two business days.
    • If your directory information is incomplete or unclear, OzU Library's WRDS administrator may reach out to you to request that you provide proof of OzU enrollment or employment.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) at WRDS

To better protect your data–as well as our data–from unauthorized access, WRDS will require two-factor authentication. This requirement will be implemented in phases. You will know when you need to register a device for two-factor authentication if, when you log in to WRDS, a message appears alerting you that you need to enroll.

Logging in to WRDS using Duo Mobile is quick and easy to set up, and enhances WRDS security on your account. If you have any questions that are not covered in the following materials, please visit the documentation at Duo Guide.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication Using a Smartphone

We recommend you use a smartphone for the verification process. To do so, you need to install the Duo Mobile app on your phone. This free app can be downloaded for iPhone, Android, or Windows phone through the device’s app store.

Three ways to search in WRDS

  1. ​Browser-based access using the web query
  2. Command-line access in a Unix environment
  3. Interactive applications: Use a statistical program like PC CAS, Matlab, or STATA

How to Search: Web Queries

The WRDS web offers a common interface and consistent data format across all databases or datasets.

  • Start by selecting a database, then narrow down to the desired dataset.
  • Choose your data
  • Chose your date range
  • Select your company codes or tickers. Code lists can be imported or saved on the WRDS platform. 
  • Select your query variables
  • Select your query output type

When you submit a query, it runs on WRDS servers, and your results will be made available for you to download when it is complete.
